We're coming out of winter in Maine. Only to be going into lock-down, due to covid. Sigh..... It's like the never ending hibernation. And I can tell you right now, it's been a struggle! I'm not a denial kinda gal. I believe in truths. Even when they fucking suck! This shit is scary. It's overwhelming. It's exhausting. And we have no idea when it'll end.... Let's chat business + crazy times + resiliency. (Because there is NO better time than the present). My clients + myself are pivoting quickly. It's out of necessity. It's out of survival. Pure and simple. There is literally no time for strategic overthinking. It's try an idea. Fuck. Nope that didn't work. Try another. It's working. And tweak. Keep going. Here's what that looks like for my clients + myself: The Garden Center: Imagine it's March and you've ordered millions of dollars in flowers, plants, organic soil, lawn care, seeds, outdoor decor, vegetable seedlings + more. Then imagine the state deeming you non-essential and NOT allowing you to open your doors to the public to sell the products you've already ordered.... That happened to my client. After an initial freak out. A few tears and sighs. We went into hyper drive. Because that's what needed to be done. How can we navigate the governors orders without breaking the law? And still sell our product safely to our community? We put together a online shopping cart. We added a product list on Facebook. We utilized Facebook & Instagram to notify our community of what we were doing. We kept them up to date of every change. We began doing curbside pickup. We did delivery within 25 mile radius of the greenhouse. We petitioned the governor and eventually she deemed us essential. And we continued to follow all of the guidelines from the CDC, while keeping the community in the loop every step of the way. It was scary AF for a bit. Lots of deep breaths. My client had moments of deep exhaustion + feeling defeated + hopelessness. And together we worked through the emotions of uncertainty. One step at a time, till we were on the other side. Another client runs a yoga center.... And yup. She was closed up for all in person yoga + meditation sessions. As well as her retreats had to be cancelled, speaking engagements, in person workshops etc. Youch!! Deep breaths. Quick thinking. Leap of faith. Swift actions. No room for second guessing. We put together an online yoga/meditation group with levels of sign ups. This did two things for her business... Created a safe online community that she can continue to grow even after the pandemic. And immediately gave her income before the pandemic started taking a toll on our country. For her community: It gave them a way to continue to do yoga + meditate through some of the toughest challenges our country has ever faced. It also created a community of folks who could be there to support each other during these challenging times. Win/Win for everyone! We also got her nature/yoga/meditation inspired artwork out to local stores and online for folks to purchased. Hosted joint online workshops with other business owners to grow her community. All in a safe, fun way that felt true + inspired to her! It was different for the funeral home, doggie daycare, life coach and affordable cremation home. They all had different needs that needed to be met, ASAP. There was little time for overthinking. Only time for fast innovation + quick action. It's been a bumpy few months for everyone. Those of us with businesses have had to learn how to adapt on a dime, pivot, try, tweak and try again. We've become super resilient. Even willing to take some risks, because we all realized we have so much to lose and none of us are willing to accept that!
As our times continue to change, it's more important than ever to dare to try.... Don't let any rock go un-turned. Be willing to stretch and see the possibilities. When you get a breather, forward think... What could go wrong? What if that happens? Then plan for the worst fucking case scenario. Because those who act quick + plan will succeed against the odds. If you are struggling and need some support, please feel free to utilize my 90 minute 'try me' session. Super affordable. No bullshit. Straight talk. Innovation + quick thinking.
