Hope you all survived the 'Great Facebook Blackout' of 2021.... Phew. What a Monday! Now that we are all back in our comfy zoned out social media spaces, I figured now was as good as time as any to chat about all the things that came up for me over the last 6 or so hours.... I'm going to break them down into 3 or so blog posts to keep these short and to the point. These are my opinions, questions and observations. So first let's look at how much MONEY Zuckerberg lost in the half a day that Facebook was actually down. Mark lost around 7 billion dollars and bumped down the list of billionaires to number 6 wealthiest human on the planet. Astounding. 7 BILLION DOLLARS. So that begs to question. How much is too much money? Is it simply capitalism doing what capitalism does? Or is pure greed? A messy mix of both. I know these are simplistic questions to a wide ranging set of problems and views... But I'm here to explore. Write out my thoughts. What feels true to me. And be open to others. Because personally, I feel a 7 billion dollar loss in a half a day is pretty much straight up fucking greed. What could we do as planet with 7 billion dollars?
More shelters and housing for our vets. Actual affordable health insurance. Increased wages to lift others out of poverty. Affordable child care for those living below the poverty line. Community college for everyone for free. Those are just a few that pop off the top of my head. Though 7 billion isn't enough to solve the worlds biggest challenges: Global hunger Climate change Covid vaccine inequalities Global poverty Education It's a start. And to think ONE man can lose this in 6 or 7 short hours and still be the 6th wealthiest man in the world is fucking dumbfounding... Would love to hear your thoughts?
